Emery Village BIA Executive Director’s message
Spring is a time for new beginnings and a chance to make fresh starts. As the days get longer, we all feel a little more hopeful. However, not everyone shares in these positive changes. Many people are still facing challenges with unemployment or underemployment, while many businesses struggle to find skilled workers.
At the BIA, we see it as our duty to help bridge the gap between job seekers and employers. Following the success of our 2nd Annual Emery Job Fair on April 18th, I am pleased to report that it was a significant event. We had over a dozen employers from our BIA, including returnees from last year’s fair, and we welcomed 1,000 job seekers. The turnout was fantastic, with lines stretching into the parking lot as attendees came to explore business displays and learn about job opportunities from various employers.
This year, we were excited to welcome new participants to our Job Fair, such as Delta Bingo, Mainline MDS, Maxx Liquidation Marketplace, Metrolinx, MillerKnoll, and Alendel Fabric Ltd., the latter also being new to our BIA membership. I would like to extend a special thank you to returning companies like Cameron Landscaping, Delta Bingo, and Eurovac. A special mention to Upper Crust for serving delicious pastries at their booth, and to Mosaic Transit Group, Multiseal, and New Era Group for their continued support.
Metrolinx made a notable contribution with several members from their Talent Acquisition Team attending the fair. Additionally, our gratitude goes to Costi Employment Services for bringing valuable skills and program information to assist job seekers.
Organizing a successful job fair requires the dedication and skill of many people. I am grateful to all the BIA businesses that contributed their time, effort, and outstanding displays. Their commitment reflects our BIA mandate and shows their willingness to support our shared community.
