All-way stops for Strathburn

Humberlea’s longtime residents know their community well, so when one of them reached out with a concern, Councillor Anthony Perruzza’s office listened—and acted quickly.

Last summer, a resident of Emery Village in the Humberlea area noticed a safety issue on Strathburn Blvd. While other nearby intersections had all-way stops, Strathburn Blvd. at Sunset Trail and Aura Lea Blvd. had only partial stop signs, causing confusion, close calls, and real safety concerns for school children crossing there. The resident experienced a near miss, almost getting T-boned at Aura Lea. It was clear that these intersections needed consistent all-way stops to improve safety and slow down traffic on Strathburn Blvd., a street often used as a shortcut to Wilson Ave.

After contacting Councillor Perruzza’s office, the resident was delighted to see just how fast change could happen. In record time, the request went to community council, was approved, and new all-way stop signs were installed at both intersections. The resident recently sent a positive note, expressing gratitude for the quick action and noting that the change will make the streets safer for everyone, especially kids walking to and from school.

Councillor Perruzza and his team deserve credit for their responsiveness, showing that when residents speak up, meaningful change can happen. Humberlea’s streets are a little safer now, thanks to a resident’s vigilance and a councillor who made sure their voice was heard. It’s a perfect example of how community members can work with local government to make Emery Village a safer, stronger neighbourhood.
