Driving! A fundraising success for EVC

By Sean Delaney

On Wednesday, June 28, Emery Village Charities (EVC) held their annual golf tournament at the Nobleton Lakes Golf Club. More than 200 golfers participated, helping to make this year’s tournament a great success.

The day had perfect weather, a bit of a miracle given the crazy weather this summer.

Emery Village Charities has been concentrating on new and exciting ways to raise funds for featured charities; Friend’s Helping Sick Kids, Children’s Mental Health, Humber River Regional Hospital, Local Seniors Groups and Highway for Heroes.

The group is in rebuilding mode, raising new funds after making a financial contribution of $100,000 to the Humber River Hospital Foundation from funds raised at previous charity events.

This year’s theme was all about the finer things Italian, “Con Gusto”. Elvira Caria served as the daytime emcee and opened the event with her upbeat and energetic personality. John Kiru, executive director of the Toronto Area Business Improvement Area, along with Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti also helped kick off the festivities.

On the course, participants were once again served delicious treats by participating food and product sponsors along with some skill challenges.

Of note, BIA Board Member Harbhajan Dhillon, amazed us all in winning the closest to the pin challenge, landing his ball within two feet of the hole. Wow!

As the afternoon came to a close, attendees entered the clubhouse and were given the chance to network and relax before the evening’s talented emcee Anwar Knight, of CTV, engaged everyone for some pre-dinner speeches. Surprise guest Doug Ford joined Councillor Mammoliti’s table for dinner. There was no politics in his short address to the crowd but we are always left with a high level of speculation about a potential future Mayoralty run.

Congratulations and Kudos went out to Sandra Farina, Executive Director of the Emery Village BIA, along with her staff for the excellent preparations and organization on the day.

Thank you to Nobleton Lakes Golf Club and staff for the helping to make this event so memorable.

Finally, it cannot be said enough, Thank you once to all of the generous sponsors.

Your support is something that Emery Village Charities does not take lightly.

All your efforts and dedication is very much appreciated by everyone connected involved. Nothing happens without support.
