Finding Gratitude in Challenging Times

As Thanksgiving approaches, we are reminded once again of the importance of gratitude and togetherness. This year, the season feels a little different. Across our city, and here in Emery Village, we’re seeing the pressures of a changing economy. Rising costs, job uncertainty, and the strain on food banks are realities that many of our neighbours are facing.

Yet, even in the midst of these challenges, the spirit of our community shines through. I see it in the generosity of volunteers who stock shelves at local food programs, in the small businesses that continue to give back despite their own hurdles, and in neighbours who look out for one another. These quiet acts of kindness are the foundation of Emery’s strength.

Thanksgiving is more than a holiday—it’s a reminder to pause and appreciate what we have, while also thinking of how we can share with those who have less. A smile, a meal, a helping hand—these gestures carry great weight. And they prove that even in uncertain times, we can lift each other up.

Emery Village has always been defined by its diversity, resilience, and compassion. These qualities are what make us not just a community, but a family. As we gather with loved ones this season, let’s extend our gratitude outward and continue building a place where everyone feels supported and valued.

On behalf of the Emery Village Voice, I wish you and your family a Thanksgiving filled with peace, kindness, and hope for brighter days ahead.
