September offers Emery residents two opportunities to carry forward one of Canada’s most enduring community traditions. The 2026 Terry Fox Run takes place across Canada on Sunday, September 20, while the national Terry Fox School Run is scheduled for Monday, September 28. Schools may choose another date that better fits their calendar.
The community run is non-competitive and open to different ages and abilities. Participants do not have to run; they may walk or ride at a comfortable pace. There is no entry fee or minimum fundraising requirement, although the Terry Fox Foundation encourages participants to register, donate or collect pledges for cancer research.
Emery residents can visit terryfox.org, select the Terry Fox Run and search for a convenient event location. Registration creates a personal fundraising page. Participants can join an existing team, form a team with relatives, neighbours or co-workers, or register individually. Those unable to attend can still donate, support a participant or share a fundraising page.
Schools can register separately through the Terry Fox School Run website and receive educational and fundraising resources. Parents can watch for notices from their child’s school and ask whether volunteers, pledges or event-day assistance are needed.
The Foundation says its annual events engage thousands of schools and communities. The scale is national, but the action remains local: one student, one family, one workplace and one neighbourhood at a time. For Emery, September is an opportunity to turn remembrance into participation and participation into support for cancer research.
