As the warm days of summer slip into the crisp air of fall, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on what makes Emery Village such a special community. Much of the beauty we’ve enjoyed these past months is thanks to the work of the Emery Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) and, more importantly, its members. Their annual contributions make possible the many projects that brighten our neighbourhood and welcome residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
One of the BIA’s most visible efforts is its beautification program. This is about more than adding colour to our streets—it’s about creating a sense of pride and belonging. Beautification not only makes Emery Village more pleasant to look at but also strengthens property values, improves community spirit, and even plays a role in reducing crime by fostering a cleaner, brighter, and more inviting environment.
This past summer, the efforts were easy to spot. Decorative benches gave people a chance to sit, relax, and enjoy a sunny afternoon. Hanging floral baskets and an assortment of more than 200 planters provided bursts of colour along our streets, carefully maintained and watered nearly every day. Decorative lamp poles and Emery banners added to the character of the neighbourhood, while stone medians and seasonal plantings gave our roads a polished look. These are the details that make a big difference in how a community feels.
Beautification is more than flowers—it’s pride, value, and community
Beyond the flowers and fixtures, beautification is about people. When our surroundings are attractive and cared for, it encourages us to gather, linger, and connect. It shows that we value our shared spaces and one another. For local businesses, it also means drawing more visitors, adding to the vitality of our streets.
On behalf of the Emery Village BIA, thank you to the members whose support makes all of this possible. Your contributions are more than just fees—they are investments in our community’s well-being and future.
We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful summer, and as we step into fall, let’s continue to put our best foot forward. Emery Village is looking brighter than ever.
