Executive Director’s message - April 2023

Executive Director’s message

With spring in full swing and the crocuses in full bloom, tulips starting to sprout and grass slowly showing signs of life, we finally find ourselves wanting to be outdoors again We crave longer walks and stopping to say hello to the neighbours we have not seen all winter long.

Planting season is soon under way at our source nursery, and numerous hanging baskets are now being prepared for this year’s selection of flowers and greenery that will bring colour and life back into our life and our streets. We ask everyone to please help keep our streets, flower planters and medians, bus stops, and medians clean by using the City’s waste receptacles and not our flower planter boxes, please. Our landscapers will be out cleaning up the remaining debris left behind by our winter season and will log any damage from our snow ploughs or traffic accidents.

Good weather also brings outdoor play activity, more cyclists and the need for drivers to be aware and cautious of their speed and the presence of children on or near our roadways.

On April 13, the Emery BIA hosted our first Emery Job Fair at the Pinecrest Event Centre.

No one knew what to expect as we had previously planned our job fair in April of 2020 but unfortunately, we had to cancel the event because of the mandated COVID-19 lockdown.

I am very pleased to say that we had an amazing turnout with many job seekers lining up outside two hours prior to us opening our doors, and the many amazing Emery Business members offering over 200 job opportunities that day.

It was such a pleasure to meet and speak with each person I met at the registration table where we also collected resumes which will be entered into our database for the BIA Business Members should new job opportunities come through in the next few weeks and months.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the Emery BIA Business Members that participated in the Emery Job Fair as this would not have been possible or have been such a success without their support.

Looking ahead, let’s not forget Mother’s Day is May 14. Every mother deserves a special day filled with love, flowers, or to be told just how very special and truly amazing they really are.

While some mother’s love flowers, and others love to go out for brunch, some love just spending a day together. And some love just to hear the words, “I love you Mom” or, “Thank you for all you do for us Mom.”

But the one thing that every mother loves the best is to be appreciated for even just one day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful mother’s, grandmother’s, fur-baby moms and of course the mother-to-be mom’s out there….

Sincerely,

Sandra Farina
