Executive Director’s Message-July 2014

It is official that summer has finally arrived. School is out and Emery Village had its first “Movie in the Park” on June 26th with a second movie event on July 17th.

Joseph Bannon Park was full and lively - filled with tons of activities for kids and parents alike.

As we know, “time flies when you’re having fun”and August is right around the corner.

Some suggestions to keep boredom at bay is to have children participate in nature walks and other outdoor activities that are close to home.

Prepare a project that will get them outside and have them discover different flowers, animals and insects when they are at play.

Joseph Bannon Park is also a great place to keep cool at the splash pad when the weather gets hot.

I encourage parents to check out current events at the public library. Currently you can enrol your child in the “Leading to Reading Program.” It’s a free program for children who are reading below their grade level. Parents or guardians can pick up an application form, complete the application form and return it to their local library.

It is noted on the Public Library site that enrolment is limited but not entirely based on first-come, first-served. Libraries located within the BIA area are Woodview Park and Humber Summit.

And as a reminder, come check us out on Facebook and Twitter.

Have a happy summer!

Sincerely,

Emery Village BIA Executive Director,

Sandra Farina
