Executive Director’s Message-Aug 2016

First day jitters

The Emery Village BIA hopes that everyone had a great summer and enjoyed the two movies in the park and other exciting events presented around town this year.

Summer 2016 is coming to a close and the Emery Village BIA knows that it may be a sad and exciting time for children getting ready to go back to class on September 6.

Let your kids know that feeling a little scared or nervous on the first day is pretty normal because of all the new things they may encounter like: new friends, new teachers and maybe even a new school. Preparing school supplies can always be a great pick-me-up seeing what can still be used from the year before and maybe getting something new.

A couple of safety tips to remember: help your child become aware of his or her surroundings to and from school; refresh them on road safety and go over emergency tips with them like the dangers of talking to strangers and usefulness of keeping their eyes open so that they return home safely every day. Taking a quick trip to the school either by car or on foot and highlighting areas that may be problematic will have them prepared for life. Also, remember to be cautious of children at drop off/pick up points which can get chaotic with school buses and vehicle congestion.

On a final note, let’s enjoy the rest of this beautiful weather and make some more memories.

Please follow us on twitter and facebook @ Emery Village BIA.

Sincerely,

Executive Director
