Emery Village BIA Executive Director’s message - October 2025

Emery Village BIA Executive Director’s message

With Remembrance Day around the corner, the Emery Village BIA cordially invites you to attend our annual Remembrance Day and wreath laying ceremony in honour of our fallen soldiers and veterans, and in memory of Joseph Bannon.

The ceremony will be at the Joseph Bannon Park- 65 Mary Chapman Boulevard on:

Tuesday, November 11th, 2025, starting at 10:30 am. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Emery Village BIA will be hosting our annual “Emery Toy & Food Drive”. Our donation pick-up dates are as follows: December 9th to December 16th, 2025.

Every year, many vulnerable families and children may go without food or toys for the holidays.

We will be collecting non-perishable food, baby diapers & formula, incontinence pads/diapers for seniors and people with disabilities: infant baby formula, children’s toys, and diapers. Donations, as well as gift cards from grocery stores or movie theatres, are an excellent treat for young teens.

All toy donations will be distributed to the identified families in need in our community by the 31 Division Police, and Emery will deliver all perishable food to the

Weston Emergency Services and North York Harvest Food Bank for distribution.

The Weston Area Emergency Support (WAES) will accept any grocery gift cards which are used to purchase fresh eggs, dairy products, fresh produce, meats, and halal protein.

Did you know?

• WAES has been around for over 30 years

• WAES operate with a passionate volunteer team of 50 regular volunteers, 50 casual volunteers, and one food space manager.

• WAES currently serves over 3,500 clients every month

• Nearly 1 in 3 client visits are children!

• Seniors represent 16% of all visits

• 3 in 4 clients identify as (Black, Indigenous, and person of colour)

• There has been a 20% increase in client visits over the last year, and they may need to cut down on new client visits.

• This is the worst situation for food insecurity they have ever had, yet everybody knows it, and still, nobody is doing anything. Currently, many clients are only able to receive 3 days’ worth of food due to the demand.

The Emery BIA will be collecting toys and food from December 9th to December 16th, 2025.
