Councillor’s corner - September 2025

Dear Resident,

First and foremost, I’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe back-to-school season. Now more than ever, it has become clear that our education system is a crucial pillar of our city. I thank all those involved in keeping our schools public and safe including staff, administration and advocates at every level.

On September 17th, Etobicoke York Community Council approved the demolition permit for the house at 76 Coral Gable Drive, for the creation of a parkette honouring the historic red oak on the site. I moved a motion to establish a committee of local residents who will be consulted and provide input on this development, which passed. This will help ensure that the end product of this local landmark reflects the spirit and wishes of the community it will reside in.

For those following the project, construction is now well underway for the Western North York Community Centre to be built on Starview Lane! Crews have been undertaking work such as the removal of topsoil and existing storm and sanitary drainage infrastructure. All of the existing site services have now been removed and the site is ready for next steps! To follow the project, visit www.toronto.ca/western-north-york-community-centre

Also, it was a pleasure to attend the Stories of Emery event hosted by Medallion, and share some of the history I experienced of this vibrant community growing up. I was happy to see so many familiar faces and new neighbours at this event, sharing both their own memories of the community as well as a new vision for the area.

Lastly, for all seniors and folks with disabilities who have not yet applied, the deadline for this year’s Property Tax and Utility Rebate application is October 31st. If you have questions about eligibility or need help with an application, please contact my office.
