Councillor’s Corner
Dear Resident,
Happy planting season! As May graces us with sunshine and smiles, I see neighbours across the Ward donning gloves and shovels, and getting to work making our communities fragrant, fruitful and full of life. My office has organized several tree plantings and community cleanups over the last little while, most recently at local Gracedale Park. It was fun working with youth and city staff to plant native trees and shrubs in our beloved community.
I recently moved a motion at the Board of Health calling on the relevant authorities and upper levels of Government to create a proper strategy for dealing with the health impacts of excessive noise, including from airplanes. Thankfully, my motion passed, with many thanks to all deputants who attended to voice their concerns as well as to city staff for their input. Scan the QR code to watch my explanation and moving of the motion.
Also, it was a pleasure to celebrate the opening of another Caribbean Queen Jerk Buffet at 14 Bradstock Road. Their local restaurant, The Caribbean Queen Jerk, has been operating in the area for many years, serving tasty Caribbean food and giving back to the community time and time again. I was happy to offer words of congratulations to Courtney and the entire team on this milestone achievement and wish them years of continued success in the neighbourhood.
Lastly, an exciting update on the Western North York Community Centre on Starview Lane. We are planning to kickstart construction on June 13th with a Groundbreaking Ceremony at St-Basil-the-Great. All are welcome. I hope to see you there, in celebration of this wonderful new development coming to the community.
