Dear Resident,
Happy June.
As we coast through the warmer months, I hope you are all taking time to enjoy the valuable outdoor spaces our community has to offer. Also, there are some exciting amenities on the way!
It was an absolute joy to celebrate breaking ground on a brand new Community Centre coming to our Ward! I was joined by Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, City of Toronto staff, and esteemed dignitaries. I look forward to watching as this beautiful project benefitting folks of all ages comes to life in the coming years.
Also, June is a particularly special time for academics - Graduation Season! Every year, it’s an honour and a pleasure to attend graduation ceremonies across Humber River-Black Creek, watching learners of many ages take a pivotal step in their journey towards bright futures. This year, I will be awarding some exceptional students for their leadership in the category of Environmental Stewardship. Congratulations to all graduates of 2025 on this incredible milestone.
Lastly, as co-chair of the FIFA Forever 2026 World Cup Committee, it was a pleasure to attend on Thursday June 12, Toronto marked one year to the FIFA World Cup 2026 with Soccer Day celebration at Nathan Phillips Square! To mark the occasion, Mayor Olivia Chow proclaimed June 12 as the first-ever Soccer Day in Toronto. The celebration featured live music, soccer demonstrations, food trucks, giveaways and the unveiling of the one-year countdown clock to the tournament! The countdown is on for the excitement, energy and unity that the sport of soccer will bring to our beloved city.
