Councillor’s Corner - January 2024

Councillor’s Corner

Dear Resident,

In early January, I had an opportunity to speak at the Budget Committee about Toronto’s budget plan for this year. Staff are proposing as part of the Budget a 10.5 % property tax increase this year. While property taxes continue to increase for years under the previous mayors, City services continued to decline. It is clear that increasing property taxes have not been working. We need a new deal for Toronto from all levels of government and to stop raising costs on Torontonians, who are already struggling to make ends meet.

In other news, I am grateful to share that I was invited by a local senior resident, Lucia Catania to attend one of her senior’s art group event. Every week, she leads and organizes a group for seniors to express their creativity through art at our local Carmine Stefano Community Centre. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Lucia for her continuous leadership, making a significant impact on our community by creating a vibrant space where seniors can socialize and explore their creative talents.
