Councillor's Corner - July 2017

Dear Friends,

I wanted to take a moment and let you know about some of the programs the City of Toronto has to offer that might be of assistance to yourself, your family member or even your neighbours.

The City of Toronto Tax and Water Relief Program

The City’s Property Tax Increase Cancellation Program gives low income seniors and low income persons with a disability the opportunity to apply for a cancellation of property tax increases.

The city offers a partial water rebate for low income seniors or low income persons with a disability who consume less than 400 cubic metres (m3) of water each year. The deadline for this application is August 31, 2017.

Toronto Renovates Homeowners Program

The Toronto Renovates Homeowners Program offers federal/provincial funding for lower-income seniors and people with a disability who wish to make health or safety repairs or accessibility modifications to their homes.

You can contact the Affordable Housing Office at (416) 392-7620 to have an application mailed to you or visit my office to have one printed and filled out for you.

Summer and Winter Maintenance

Four Seasons Connections is an outdoor home maintenance program that connects seniors and disabled adults to outdoor home maintenance assistants.

Maintenance assistants provide outdoor home maintenance assistance to seniors any season. Outdoor home maintenance activities can range from snow and ice removal in the winter to planting and grass cutting in the summer. Phone: (416) 447-5074

Canes Community Care is a not-for-profit organization that assists clients with tasks in the home, providing emotional and social support, while helping them take part in the life of their community. Phone: (416) 743-3892.

Toronto Seniors Helpline

If you are a senior that needs help, Toronto Seniors Helpline can help in many ways.

They offer community support, such as Meals on Wheels, transportation and adult day programs, crisis services, care at home, such as nursing and personal support or supportive counselling over the phone. They offer help in over 100+ languages. Phone: (416) 217-2077-for-profit organization that assists.
