If you’ve missed out on or haven’t yet heard about the new federal dental assistance program announced late last year, here’s what you need to know.
The interim Canada Dental Benefit offers significant financial assistance to reduce dental costs for eligible families earning less than $90,000 annually. Parents and guardians can apply if their child, under 12 years old, needs dental care and cannot access a private dental insurance plan.
Depending on your adjusted family net income, you may be eligible for a tax-free payment of $260, $390, or $650 for each eligible child. This interim dental benefit is available for two periods, allowing for a maximum of two payments per eligible child. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administers these benefit payments.
The first benefit period covers children under 12 years old as of December 1, 2022, who receive dental care between October 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023.
The application process is straightforward: book a dental appointment for your child before applying. You will need to provide details about your child’s dental provider and the expected appointment date when applying.
