A sunny day of community skating

What’s better than a wintertime skate? Or outdoor wintertime skating with family and friends and host MPP Tom Rakocevic?

Rakocevic and staff were on hand to welcome residents to the community skating party on January 8th at our own Joseph Bannon Park. It was an excellent opportunity for children to spend the last day of their holiday outdoors.

“We wanted to host an event encouraging people to stay active in the winter months,” said constituency assistant Andrew Fiorido. “And it’s an excellent opportunity for children to spend the last day of their holiday outdoors.”

Fiorido went on to thank the City of Toronto for maintaining a great community space.

People of all ages came out. Some came to skate, others to socialize with other community members.

There were treats served along with hot chocolate, and music played to add to everyone’s enjoyment.

“Seeing some kids learning to skate for the first time was beautiful. And some thoughtful residents had the foresight to bring benches to help novice skaters keep their balance on the ice,” said another Racocevic staffer, Alida Troini.

“I was thrilled to see such a great turnout for our first community event of 2023,” said host Tom Rakocevic. “One of our country’s greatest outdoor winter activities is skating, and it was a lot of fun kicking off the new year on the ice with good company and hot chocolate. A great time was had by all, and we look forward to continuing our community engagement as 2023 unfolds. Thank you to everyone who came out and made this event a success.”
