Toronto City Council will consider a report to oppose the current development proposal for 3100 Weston Road at the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT).
The proposed development has generated significant discussion within the community, with residents participating in public meetings, submitting written comments, and speaking directly to officials.
According to Councillor Anthony Perruzza, Etobicoke Community Council recently voted unanimously to direct City staff and legal counsel to oppose the application in its current form. The matter has now advanced through the municipal review process and remains under consideration as the application proceeds.
“As a refresher, two community meetings have been held regarding this application, one hosted by City Planning staff and another I hosted,” Perruzza said in a recent community update. “The applicant has appealed the application to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT). At Etobicoke Community Council, Council voted unanimously to send City lawyers and planners to the OLT in opposition to this application.”
During a recent interview with the Emery Village Voice, Perruzza outlined several concerns that have been identified by City staff and residents.
Among the issues raised were the proposed traffic movements and driveway access onto Weston Road, the impact on public easements and access routes leading into the Humber River ravine system, and the preservation of heritage features located on the property. Perruzza also questioned whether the current design adequately addresses several planning concerns associated with the site.
“The way it’s been designed and the way it’s been placed on that site doesn’t work,” Perruzza said, noting concerns related to traffic, public access, site functionality and heritage preservation.
The Councillor emphasized that the City’s position is focused on the current proposal before it and the planning issues identified through the review process.
The matter has now advanced to Toronto City Council for consideration as part of the City’s ongoing review process. Following Council’s direction, City staff and legal representatives are expected to participate in the Ontario Land Tribunal proceedings on behalf of the City as the application continues through the review process.
Residents interested in following the application can watch City Council online, attend in person, or submit written comments to City Council. Information regarding the application remains available through the City of Toronto’s public agenda system.
The Emery Village Voice will continue to follow developments regarding the 3100 Weston Road proposal.
