Toronto will welcome thousands of visitors for summer events, including international soccer and other large gatherings. Community safety is a shared priority across the city.
One initiative gaining attention is “Ask for Angela,” a program supported by Victim Services Toronto and promoted locally through Toronto Police Service 31 Division.
The idea is simple but powerful. If someone feels unsafe in a public place—whether in a restaurant, store, transit setting, or other everyday location—they can discreetly ask staff, “Is Angela here?” This phrase signals that they may need help, allowing trained staff to respond quietly and connect them to support without drawing attention.
Victim Services Toronto has been expanding the program across a range of spaces, helping ensure that more locations are prepared to respond in a trauma-informed and supportive way. Residents and visitors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the program and know that support is always within reach.
