Dear Resident,
First of all, I’d like to wish you all a happy Black History Month. February is a time to listen to, uplift and celebrate Black voices. I hope you all take this opportunity to reflect on Black History and support our neighbours in the African Diaspora.
The last few weeks have been a source of great concern, confusion and uncertainty for many in the City of Toronto due to President Trump’s tariff threats. I moved a motion at City Council in February for the City to call upon the Federal Government for a Canada-wide labeling campaign encouraging consumers to vote for Canada with precious political capital; their spending.
The Emery Village BIA represents 3,200 Businesses and Commercial Properties, employing over 28,000 people. I will continue to fight for ways we can protect Canadian commerce, and incentivize residents to think local first; supporting Canadian industries, Canadian jobs and Canadian workers.
In other news, the City will be voting on the 2025 Budget in February. Once again, a property tax increase is being proposed, this time of 6.9%. I have long argued that not only are property taxes an unsustainable way to solve Toronto’s financial problems, but they penalize vulnerable groups such as seniors.
During such difficult financial times, this will make life harder for Torontonians. I will be voting against this property tax increase. If you want to know how you can watch the proceedings, please contact my office.
