A month to celebrate Black excellence, culture, and community across Toronto.
Every February, Canada comes together to celebrate Black History Month — a time to honour the stories, achievements, and cultural richness of Black Canadians who have helped shape our country and our city.
In Toronto, this month is filled with music, film, art, food, and community gatherings that highlight Black excellence and creativity. It’s also a chance to learn about the people and moments that built a stronger, more vibrant Canada — including the deep contributions of Caribbean communities that continue to energize Toronto’s neighbourhoods.
If you’re looking for a simple way to take part, try one (or more) of these: attend a local event, visit an exhibit, watch a Black-led film screening, read a book by a Black Canadian author, or support a Black-owned business. Even small choices — like sharing a story with your family or bringing a friend along — help keep these histories and voices visible.
Black History Month is more than a calendar moment. It’s a positive reminder that our city is at its best when we celebrate each other, learn from one another, and make space for every voice.
