Victoria Day is just around the corner, and if you’re looking to make the most of the long weekend without straying too far from home, Toronto has you covered. On Monday, May 19, the city will come alive with free activities, family fun, and the return of some much-loved traditions. Whether you’re into fireworks, flowers, or farm animals, there’s something for everyone this May Two-Four.
One of the biggest highlights? The Victoria Day Fireworks at Ashbridges Bay Park. Grab a blanket and some snacks and head down to the lake for the 10 p.m. show. It’s a classic Toronto tradition and always draws a crowd. Make sure to take the TTC—it’ll be busy, and parking is limited.
If you’d prefer to keep it calm and local, Toronto’s 1,500 parks and beaches offer the perfect setting for a picnic or a lazy afternoon stroll. Splash and spray pads across the city also open for the season on Friday, May 17, and they’ll be running daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.—a great way to keep the kids cool.
Golfers can hit the links at any of the City’s five municipal golf courses, all of which will be open for the weekend. They’re scenic, affordable, and TTC-accessible.
Looking for something a little different? Try a visit to Riverdale Farm, open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and kids love seeing the cows, pigs, and chickens right in the middle of the city. Or visit High Park’s animal display, another favourite, though note the park is car-free all weekend, so be ready to walk in.
Allan Gardens and Centennial Park Conservatories are also open, showing off some beautiful blooms from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily—no charge to get in, and they’re perfect for a quiet wander.
If your little ones love animals, make sure to head to the Toronto Zoo, open 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. all weekend. It’s not free, but with over 3,000 animals and 10 kilometres of trails, you’ll get your money’s worth.
And for those looking to soak in a bit of art and culture, City-run art galleries and museums will be open over the weekend (closed on Victoria Day Monday), and many offer free admission. Perfect for a peaceful outing before the fireworks.
So however you plan to spend your Victoria Day, there’s no shortage of options in the city. Whether you’re out with family, friends, or just enjoying some solo time, get out there and celebrate the unofficial start of summer—Toronto style.
