Publisher’s note - May 2014

Look for recreation and integrity.

On June 12, we will go to the polls, and later this year, on October 12, we will return. It is a year of decisions. But, it is also a year in which we, the members of the public, get to wield our power.

In June and October, our representatives will once again ask our permission to serve us, and while we relish in holding them to account during their terms, we then must respect the responsibility and privilege we get in making the selection.

In Emery Village, the biggest issue is transportation and the impending decision on transit. A public meeting is being hosted to gather information on the present LRT proposal, but in our officials, we will need to look for someone who has the forward thinking to consider all options, and the keen eye to source out the best. It is an issue that effects the entire city, and we must ensure the best decision is made.

As voters, it is our responsibility to know of what we speak, and vote, and that is why attending the meeting and learning what issues effect our community is key.

I too will look for someone with a focus on recreation. Our youth need the proper facilities, and it will be time to fight for them.

Most importantly, however, make the best decision you can.

Of all the advice that can be given before one heads to the polls, the best remains the classics. Get to know your candidates, look for someone who shares you ideals, and in this day, look for someone who will battle for what is best for you.

That way you can focus on enjoying the seasons.

Election season can be a breeze. Be prepared.
