On April 28th, residents across Humber River–Black Creek and beyond will once again be called to the ballot box, this time to vote in a federal by-election. And once again, we are reminded that democracy only works if we all show up.

Last month, I wrote about the importance of participating in the Ontario provincial election. Today, that message rings even louder. With each election, we are offered a chance to shape the direction of our country and to support leaders who reflect the values and priorities of our community.

There is a lot at stake this time around. From the soaring cost of living and the affordability crisis facing so many Canadians, to growing concerns about housing, healthcare, and the global economy, this election is an opportunity to demand action and accountability.

We’re also watching with concern as international issues spill into our national conversation. Tariffs, shifting alliances, and geopolitical instability in regions like the U.S. all remind us that our domestic policies must be strong, responsive, and rooted in supporting the people who live and work here.

Many of the candidates in this election have spoken about protecting the most vulnerable, improving supports for working families, and finding real, sustainable solutions to Canada’s housing crisis. Others promise a more aggressive economic strategy. Whatever your political leaning, it’s critical that we all take the time to learn about the candidates and vote with intention.

As always, we encourage you to talk to your neighbours, ask questions, and pay attention to the platforms. This is not just another vote—this is your chance to influence how your federal government represents you.

Make your voice heard.

Vote on April 28th.
