Pedal Power in Emery Village: A fresh way to ride this spring

By Shannon Del Marco

With the warmer weather finally creeping in and spring knocking at our door, there’s no better time to get outside and explore Emery Village—and beyond—on two wheels. Thanks to Bike Share Toronto, hopping on a bike has never been easier, and now, it’s even more convenient with new stations popping up right here in our neighbourhood.

If you’ve never used Bike Share before, you’re not alone. Many residents are just discovering how simple and affordable it can be to rent a bike and go. The system is operated by the Toronto Parking Authority and offers over 9,000 bikes at more than 800 stations across the city.

Getting started is easy. You can download the Bike Share Toronto app or visit their website. From there, just choose a plan, scan a QR code at the bike dock, and start pedaling.

Pricing is flexible: a single ride costs just $1 to unlock, plus 12 cents per minute for classic bikes, or 20 cents per minute for e-bikes. For more frequent riders, day passes ($15) and annual memberships (starting at $105/year) offer great value. E-bike usage under a membership is billed at just 10 cents per minute with no unlock fee.

We’re especially excited that Bike Share stations are now available in several spots around Emery Village, including:

Weston Rd and Lanyard Rd

Lindylou Rd and Lanyard Rd

Weston Rd and Sheppard Avenue West

These new stations make it simple for locals to grab a bike for errands, a quick commute, or even just a scenic ride. One of the most beautiful trails in the city is right in our backyard. Head west off Weston Road and you’ll find the Humber River Recreational Trail. It runs along the river and connects all the way down to the Martin Goodman Trail near the waterfront. It’s a quiet, lush route perfect for anyone who wants to soak in some nature while staying active.

But you don’t need to ride far to enjoy what Emery has to offer. A bike can turn a regular visit to a local park into a little adventure. Roundtree Mills Park is just a short ride away and makes for a peaceful destination tucked along the West Humber. You might also head over to Strathburn Park, Summerlea Park, or even the Carmine Stefano Community Centre. Exploring your own neighbourhood by bike lets you see it in a whole new light—and lets you cover more ground than walking.

And let’s not forget the practical side. Maybe you’re heading to the store for a few things, visiting a friend, or getting some fresh air between errands. With more stations popping up, cycling is becoming not just a fun weekend activity but a real option for everyday travel. No traffic, no emissions, no parking headaches—just a healthy way to get around. Whether you’re new to cycling or just haven’t been on a bike in years, Bike Share makes it fun, easy, and eco-friendly to move through the city. So why not give it a try this spring? Emery Village is ready for you to roll.
