Big news, everyone.
Two of Emery’s young athletes, Bryden and Delwin Selestien, have qualifyied to represent Canada at the World Jiu Jitsu Championships in Greece this October. The brothers, aged 14 and 12, are no strangers to the sport, having competed across Canada, earning numerous medals in both Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling.
Bryden and Delwin started their martial arts journey at the ages of six and four, respectively. Their dedication to the sport is nothing short of inspiring. Whether it’s early mornings or late evenings, you’ll find them training hard and always pushing each other to be their best. This isn’t just a hobby for them, it’s a passion they live every day.
Bryden snagged a gold medal at the Canadian National JIU JITSU Championship this June, while his younger brother Delwin wasn’t far behind with a silver. These boys don’t just compete, they dominate.
Getting to Greece is a pricey affair, however. While the association covers their team gear, travel costs are out of pocket because they’re under 18. It’s approximately $8,000 needed to cover flights, hotels, and other bits and bobs. So, they’ve set up a GoFundMe page to gather some community support. You can chip in here: gofund.me/49bfbb74
Their dad, Jerard, said that supporting these boys isn’t just about funding a trip, it’s about sending a bit of Emery Village spirit to the world stage. It’s a chance for Bryden and Delwin to showcase their hard work and maybe even bring home some global glory.
We’re a tight-knit bunch here in Emery, always ready to support our own. Let’s show Bryden and Delwin some love and help them get to Greece. Every little bit helps, and we know they’ll be grateful for the support from their home crowd.
