The Emery Village Voice and I were honoured and humbled to receive the Community Leaders Award from Why Not and Pastor Frances. This recognition not only celebrates the work we’ve done over the years but also reaffirms our commitment to making a positive impact within our community.
As the publisher of the Emery Village Voice for more than 11 years and with nearly 40 years in the media industry, I am truly humbled to be recognized in this way. Writing for our community each month has been a labour of love, and receiving this award serves as a reminder of the importance of our mission. Our goal has always been to inform, engage, and uplift the voices of our community members, and it is incredibly rewarding to know that our efforts are appreciated.
The award presentation was a memorable evening, attended by local dignitaries, including MP Judy Sgro and Community Officers from 31 Division. Their presence added a sense of significance to the event, highlighting the importance of community collaboration and leadership. I was incredibly grateful to share this moment with my wife, who has supported me throughout my journey in journalism.
Pastor Frances, whose dedication to community service is well-known, played a key role in organizing the event. His words of encouragement and support resonated deeply with everyone in attendance, inspiring us to continue working toward a brighter future for Emery Village.
Reflecting on this honour, I am reminded of the countless stories shaping our community. From highlighting local events to addressing important issues, the Emery Village Voice has always aimed to be a platform for everyone. This award motivates me to strive even harder to make Emery Village a better place to live, ensuring that our residents feel informed, connected, and valued.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Emery Village Voice over the years. Your engagement and feedback have been invaluable, and I look forward to continuing this journey together.
As we move forward, I remain committed to a mission of fostering community spirit and dialogue. We can build a stronger, more vibrant Emery Village for all.
