Emery Village BIA Executive Director's message - Aug 2018

We want to give a huge thank you to all who came out for the Claudio Vena and Alfie Zappacosta ceremonial street naming on July 19th.

We had a great crowd to honour two talented and deserving Emery alumni. Please visit our Facebook page (Emery Village BIA) and view the historic moment.

Need some ideas this summer or planning a staycation? Then look no further than around the corner at the Gord & Irene Risk Community Centre located at the northeast corner of Islington Road and Finch Avenue. The centre is equipped with a fitness facility, an outdoor swimming pool and general interest programs for all ages. If you are looking for some outdoor activities, you can purchase a Bocce membership and play in the afternoons and evenings. So go and check the community centre out and enjoy your summer days.

Another recreation centre close to home is the Carmine Stefano Centre located in the Sheppard Avenue and Weston area. This community recreation centre offers a wide range of activities including fitness, art, music, dance, social, sports and other programs. Check to see if there is still availability for day camps and sign your kids up for a week full of fun and adventure.

This time of year, kids are playing outside and need to refresh on safety and road rules. Parents should take a few minutes to ensure that kids are observant and know where to safely ride their bikes by staying away from trafficked areas. Riders should know proper signalling gestures and that all bike equipment is in working order, especially the bell.

Have a great summer!

Sincerely,

Executive Director Sandra Farina
