Councillor 's Corner - August 2024

Dear Resident,

As September approaches, I’d like to wish families a happy and safe end of summer and a smooth transition back to school. I’m delighted to announce that a new park is coming to the Sheppard-Weston area. The new Isaac Devins Park is almost complete and expected to open this fall. As your City Councillor, upgrades to amenities have always been important to me. I have been working with city staff to prioritize needed improvements and additions to our communities. Stay tuned for news about completion timelines and the park’s official opening.

My office has continued to host pop-up clinics to help residents fill out their paperwork for the City of Toronto’s property tax and solid waste rebate. I understand that property taxes are a costly burden for Torontonians. That’s why I, along with some of my colleagues, started a program to bring relief to seniors and people with disabilities. If you have not yet applied, there is still time. This year’s applications are open until October 31, 2024. My office continues to help residents apply for this property tax increase cancellation. For more information or assistance, please call my office.

As the summer months ebb on, so does the pattern of unpredictable weather we have been experiencing. Many residents have continued to feel the effects of intense rainfall, especially in flood-prone areas. Preventative infrastructure upgrades have always been a priority for my office, and I continue to work with residents and city staff to upgrade and rebuild storm water sewers in our neighbourhoods. It is important for residents to note that the City of Toronto offers a Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program to help cover the cost of infrastructure upgrades to prevent homes from flooding. As always, my office can be contacted for assistance in finding these resources and any questions that residents may have.
