Executive Director's Message - July 2019

Need some ideas this summer or planning a “staycation”?

Then look no further than around the corner and discover the Humber River Trail. Families can walk or ride the Emery Creek Bike Path connecting community pathways. Emery BIA wants to promote local activities bringing people together, so get your comfy footwear, pack a snack and bottle some water and see what is in the neighbourhood.

During the summer months, grown ups should keep in mind that kids are playing outside and may need a refreshment course on bicycle safety and road rules. Parents should take a few minutes to ensure that kids are observant and know where to safely ride their bikes by staying away from trafficked areas. Riders should know proper signalling gestures and that all bike equipment is in working order, especially the bell to use as a warning to pedestrians when riding along a path. For more safety tips please visit the Toronto Police Service website: www.torontopolice.on.ca/crimeprevention/bicyclesafety.php

For more ideas on a budget and to enjoy nature you can always check out the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) for activities and parks near you. The TRCA offers suggestions on how to beat the heat this summer by enjoying wet, wild and wonderful adventures at local parks that have swimming pools and splash pad areas that are now open. The TRCA also has a full calendar of family programs and events like Teaching and Learning with Monarch Butterflies, Creating Monarch Friendly Habitats, and Nature Day Camps. For more information please visit the TRCA website at: TRCA.ca

Also keep in mind that you can share your Emery BIA summer adventures with us on Facebook, Twitter and now on Instagram!

Check it out and like our page (Emery Village BIA Page) and we will keep you in the loop with our local events and activities.

Have a great summer everyone!

Sincerely,

Sandra Farina
