I am pleased to announce that my office is hosting a Community Environment Day on Tuesday, May 17, at the Toryork Works Yard (49 Toryork Dr.) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please bring bags or pails to gather compost for your garden and planters. If you have any questions about the event, contact my office.
My mobile office team is popping by local parks to connect with you over the spring and summer. Those on our phone list in the surrounding communities will receive a phone call before each event, and I will share the details on social media. Contact my office if you want your phone number added to the list.
My staff and I look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new neighbours.
At the last council meeting, I put forth a motion related to my work with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA). I want to thank the TRCA for prioritizing Indigenous perspectives in their approach. The City Manager will consult with the TRCA to report back to City council in June on the funding required to modernize Black Creek Pioneer Village, emphasizing Indigenous perspectives of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples in Toronto. Investing in opportunities to educate the public about the history of Indigenous Peoples while revitalizing Black Creek Pioneer Village is the best way to preserve and honour the space. To learn more about the motion, contact my office.
I also joined Mayor Tory and Councillor Crawford to announce the elimination of late fees at Toronto Public Libraries. This is a critical barrier to remove to make libraries and the public services they provide more accessible. If you have questions about the City’s Poverty Reduction Strategy, contact my office.
