Weston Road’s transformation through the decades

In this month’s edition of “A Blast From the Past”, we take a nostalgic journey down Weston Road, comparing its landscape from 1965 to that of 2021. This trip down memory lane, curated by Eugene Arcilesi, highlights the importance of remembering and cherishing our past, as it shapes our present and future.

Our photographic journey begins with Photo 1, showcasing Weston Road as seen from Flindon Road in 1965, looking north. The image captures the essence of a simpler time, with fewer buildings and more open space, painting a picture of a community in its developmental stages.

Photo 2 and Photo 3, both taken in 1965, offer views of Weston Road looking south from Flindon Road. These images reveal the architectural styles and urban planning of that era, providing a stark contrast to the contemporary landscape.

Fast forward to 2021, Photo 4 presents a view of Weston Road looking north from Flindon Road. The transformation is remarkable, with modern buildings and a bustling streetscape replacing the quieter scenes of the past.

Similarly, Photo 5 depicts Weston Road in 2021, looking south from Flindon Road. The change in the urban environment is evident, showcasing the evolution of the area into a vibrant and dynamic part of the city.

Finally, aerial views from 1965 and 2021 in Photo 6 and Photo 7 respectively, offer a bird’s-eye perspective of the area’s transformation over more than half a century.

This visual retrospective not only celebrates the history of Weston Road but also encourages reflection on the growth and development of our community. It’s a poignant reminder of the roots from which Emery Village has grown and a nod to the progress we have made together as a community.
