Two years ago, the Emery Village BIA Board of Management approved scholarships to help recognize outstanding students from local high schools in Emery Village and the adjacent school district in skilled trades categories.
Both Emery Collegiate and Westview Centennial High School will be selecting students from their skilled trades programs best qualified and worthy of the bursaries.
“Our local businesses support the role and importance of skilled trades to the health and vitality of our local economy and the enormous potential for young people to succeed through their entry in skilled trades training programs to launch their careers. We are hopeful that the bursaries will help the students overcome the financial burdens they may face and encourage them to pursue their goals. Along with our bursary, we wish to convey our best wishes and every success in their future endeavours,” said Sandra Farina, Executive Director of the Emery Village BIA.
Two scholarships will be awarded each year at each school that is within the geographic boundaries of the BIA. For the time being, the Board has also voted to include Emery Collegiate and Westview Centennial as they are located immediately adjacent to the BIA and St Basil the Great College.
Two scholarships per school were recently selected. One to a male-identifying or non-binary student and the other award to a female-identifying or non-binary student.
