Executive Director's Message-Jan 2018

Happy New Year and welcome to 2018!

Here at Emery we hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday and stayed safe and warm visiting friends and family while creating new memories together.

January has been a busy month for us. We have updated a few things on our website (www.emeryvillagebia.ca) to help our members reach their business potential. Members can now let us know when they have a job opening and we will place it on our Job Board located in the bottom right box on our home page entitled “Work Harder”. Here members will have the opportunity to connect with local candidates looking for work. Businesses using our platform have had positive outcomes and the best part is that all postings are free and managed by the member through our office.

Our website also features seminars through the City of Toronto and its affiliates. Seminars typically run in the morning during the week with many being free of charge. To attend you can easily register through Emery’s calendar or through the City of Toronto website: www.toronto.ca under “Training Seminars”.

Hot topics are discussed like: How to Start a Food Business or Ask an Expert Series featuring accountants, insurance specialists or lawyers. Members can take advantage of so many tools to help their businesses become more profitable and assist in increasing foot traffic.

So far, January has brought on some extreme weather with icy roads and bitter cold snaps. Our fingers are crossed that the weather becomes a little more bearable in the coming months. In the meantime, Emery has a tool for members called “Track my Plow”, an interactive map that is easy to use with live camera feeds to show which roads are free and clear for traveling. You can find the tool on the bottom left corner of our home page. Click and scroll to the area you need and it will show you with a few easy clicks.

A reminder to our readers that Family Day will be on Monday, Feb. 19 and that Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) features a great schedule for the more adventurous family with activities that range from Nature Walks, Hoot and Howls, and Owl Prowl events.

You can find the full activity calendar at: https://trca.ca

Have fun and be safe!

Sincerely,

Sandra Farina
