Emery Collegiate Institute is one of the two area high schools (along with St. Basil’s College), that provides secondary schooling to our community’s teenagers. In its heyday, Emery regularly had more than 2,000 students enrolled per year.

Since the opening of the school in 1961, many area youngsters have attended the school located at 3395 Weston Road, about 500 metres south of Finch. There is a winding singular road that heads up the hill to the school allowing it to mimic a campus atmosphere.

This year, there is a proud group of former Emery alumni that have organized a reunion for all students and teachers that have ever attended the school in its 55 year history. Some of the organizers of the reunion include Naz Marchese, Barbara (Hamilton) Mitchell and Theresa Southby.

The big day is set for Saturday May 14 at the Famee Furlane Club found close to Islington Ave. north of Steeles. Individual tickets for the event can only be purchased online and in advance for $65. Tickets includes dinner and entertainment. It is expected to be an outstanding event with performances by former Emery alumni Alfie Zappacosta, Claudio Vena and LouiePomanti. You can check online at www.emerycollegiate.com and review “Who’s Coming” to see what former Emery alumni have already registered to attend. Booking a ticket is just as easy. Many former graduates, mainly from the 60s and 70s, have already registered to be at the festivities but the organizers are hoping that many former students from the 80s and 90s can join in on the fun too. Spread the word and we hope to see everyone there.
