There is some excellent news to share.
The Emery Village BIA will hold the Emery Job Fair on Thursday, April 13th.
This will be a welcome boost to our community employment picture and a helpful nudge to Emery employers to connect with local talent and skilled workers. Entrance is free as we welcome job seekers, students, and any career-minded individuals interested in meeting with some of our most successful employers in the BIA.
We’ve chosen this spring as an opportune time of year when businesses prepare to launch their projects for the coming year in construction, renovations, retrofitting of equipment, filling manufacturing orders, and coinciding with the emergence of graduates from colleges, universities, and training facilities. The Job Fair is open until 8 p.m. to accommodate many who can’t make it beforehand.
With more than a dozen employers planning to be present (as of March 23rd - with more anticipated), there will be information for more than 130 job postings in over 40 categories. Some of these exciting employment opportunities include; Construction Managers, Estimators, Butchers, Grocery Clerks, Welders, Fabricators, Powder Coat Painters, Lead Landscapers, Heavy Equipment Operators, Assemblers, AZ Drivers, Traffic Control, Waterproofers, CNC Milling Machinists, CNC Lathe Machinist, CNC Programmers, Assistant Surveyors, Station Ambassadors, Customer Care Representative, Couriers, Assistant Quality Managers (transit), Industrial Mechanics, Quality Assurance Technicians, Labourers, Line Operators (Oven, Mixer, Production), Trainers - Vehicles and Operations and Document Controllers.
We have all experienced the disruption to Finch Ave. while Metrolinx and its construction partner, Mosaic Transit, continue installing the Finch West LRT. Apart from the many future transit benefits of the Finch West LRT, there are ever-expanding employment opportunities, many targeted at the construction and operations sector. The great news is that Metrolinx and Mosaic will be represented at the job fair with an extensive list of job postings and career opportunities. Look for their booth.
Hint, they’ll be next to each other.
This year we’ve partnered with COSTI’s Employment Services Division (www.costi.org). Look for them at their booth, where you’ll find them talking with attendees and job candidates about various programs, services, and grants available to job candidates and employers. As a BIA, we are not typically in the job market business, however, we have a unique status as a hybrid Business Improvement Area that covers commercial, industrial, and retail sectors combined. Emery is in a large, provincially designated Employment Area, which allows us to bring together the various human resource professionals, company representatives, and business owners with our community talent. Additionally, many Emery businesses are enjoying success in their field and demonstrating outstanding growth potential, spawning opportunities for job seekers to join them.
If you or someone you know are looking for a rewarding job or insight into careers and the diversity of businesses in your backyard or local shopping locations, visit us on Thursday, April 13th, for an exciting job fair.
