On the idyllic afternoon of August 19th radiant sun set the stage for a highly anticipated community events, the annual Movie-in-the-Park at Joseph Bannon Park. This year’s event also saw the Emery Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) celebrate its 20th anniversary, making the occasion all the more special.
Gathering together like a big, extended family, 500 to 600 community members embraced the day’s beauty, uniting for a festive and joyous celebration. Families, friends, and neighbors arrived at the park, eager to bask in the warm camaraderie and fun-filled activities.
The event began at 5:30 pm allowing attendees to make the most of the summer evening. A splash pad and bouncy castle offered endless enjoyment for children of all ages.
Local BIA members contributed unique flavours to the event, setting up tents showcasing a wide range of offerings. Moviegoers enjoyed sampling delectable treats and exploring various products from participating vendors. Among the participants were Freshii, Metrolinx, Starbucks, Emery Eye Q, and local pet and meat stores.
Children’s faces lit up as they enjoyed an array of activities. The skilled hands of face-painting artists transformed young ones into whimsical characters, allowing their imaginations to run wild. A DJ took the field, captivating the crowd with lively beats, with everyone enjoying dancing and singing along.
And what would a community celebration be without the taste of indulgence? A funnel truck stood ready to cater to sweet cravings, adding an element of carnival nostalgia to the event. Gelato by West Finch Bakery offered a refreshing reprieve for those seeking a cooler delight.
The Emery Village BIA’s commitment to creating memorable moments for the community was evident in every aspect of the event. From the joyful laughter to the harmonious mingling of neighbors, the movie night truly encapsulated the spirit of togetherness that has defined the neighborhood for two decades.
As the sun gradually set and the stars began to twinkle, the main event was welcoming comments offered by MPP Tom Rakocevic and Ward 7 Councillor Anthony Perruzza. Both gentlemen welcomed the community and took the opportunity to congratulate Emery BIA staff members Sandra Farina, Al Ruggero, and Luisa Di Santo on the occasion of the 20th anniversary.
The movie Luca commenced under the open sky.
Chairs were set up, blankets were laid out, popcorn was popped, and families settled in to watch the award-winning film.
The Emery Village BIA’s 20th-anniversary Movie-in-the Park proved once again that the power of unity and celebration is unparalleled in this close-knit community.
With hearts full of gratitude and a strong sense of belonging, Emery Village moves forward, embracing each year with the same warmth and enthusiasm that defines this cherished tradition.
In closing, Sandra Farina wanted to thank all the community volunteers that assisted in making this day such an incredible success.
