Dear Emery Village Community,
March is finally here, and with it comes that long-awaited sense of relief as the winter cold begins to lift. I hope that everyone enjoyed the spring break and found the time to relax and recharge with your loved ones. As the days grow longer, I see kids playing outside and birds chirping, which is lovely, though this season arrives with a heavy heart for our community.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Giorgio Mammoliti, our former Ward 7 (Humber River–Black Creek) Councillor. Giorgio was more than just a representative; he was one of our founders and a tireless advocate for the Emery Village BIA and Ward 7, who did an immense amount of work for this neighbourhood. We have received so many calls and messages from businesses and residents offering their condolences, and we want to thank you for your kindness during this difficult time. Giorgio’s impact on our community was profound, and he will remain forever in our hearts.
Looking toward the future and the continued growth of our local economy, I want to highlight an important update regarding the Economic Development and Growth in Employment (EDGE) Incentive Program. This program is an important tool for supporting new construction and major renovations within our targeted employment sectors. The City is able to refund a portion of the property tax increases that result from these new developments. I would strongly encourage any local business owners or developers considering a project to explore this opportunity. We also have a unique window where grant amounts have been temporarily increased from 60 percent to 100 percent of the Municipal Tax Increment for the duration of the five-year grant period. To take advantage of this full 100 percent enhancement, please ensure your applications are submitted before the December 31, 2027, deadline.
As we approach the upcoming long weekend, I would like to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to you and your families.
