Dress Shopping on the Go

Imagine a food truck.

But you’re not just walking up to it—you're walking in. And when you do, you’re entering a luxury boutique specializing in high-end fashion focusing on evening gowns.

“Whether you’re shopping for prom, bridesmaids, or perhaps a group of ladies wanting to have a girls' night shopping party, or maybe a woman with a last-minute event who doesn’t want to deal with traffic or crowds to go to a shop, I come to you,” said Adeba Harper, owner of Livy Lizzy Boutique.

The mobile shop is approximately six metres long, has a full-service changing room, and an inventory of European fashion, much of which is exclusive to the truck, Harper said.

“I would say 80 percent of the inventory; we are the sole seller in Ontario,” she noted. “So, if someone is wearing a dress from us, it is very likely there is no one else selling that gown, which means there is no one else wearing it.”

Harper added that affordability is very important, explaining that her truck doesn’t come with padded prices because of its convenience. They are very competitive, with dresses ranging from $200 to $800 per dress.

Harper shared that she has always had a passion for fashion and, before the boutique, had a full-time job and a daughter. However, she had always dreamed of working for herself and decided to put her passion into action. Then COVID-19 hit.

“If the COVID-19 pandemic taught us anything, it was to make things convenient and go mobile,” Harper stated. “I saw some mobile shops like this in the States for vintage clothing and wanted to change it to be a luxury boutique.”

Fast forward three and a half years, and she had it all sketched out—what it would look like inside and out.

“We found a truck, made a deal with a carpenter and designer, worked closely, built it, wrapped the outside, got my inventory from Europe, and here we are. We officially launched in July of last year,” Harper said.

Her challenge now is to let Toronto know the boutique exists.

She has about 200 dresses in the truck at any one time and a small selection of jewelry and clutches, and she is ready to show up and dress you up at any time.
