Doug Ford on the provincial trail with election fast approaching
It will be on June 7th when Doug Ford is expecting to gain power in Ontario. That’s his goal.
To accomplish this, he must first win his seat for MPP in Etobicoke North. This is something that may not be as difficult as Kathleen Wynne winning her own seat in Don Valley West.
Andrea Horwath is poised and convinced she will have success in this election too.
But it’s the voters that will be counted on tangentially in selecting our choice for Premier.
If you merely look at the public passion and support that Ford draws to his rallies, he’ll be an easy win.
Probably not in our riding, but most definitely across this vast province.
The frenzy seen for Doug Ford is unusual and special. Ford’s supporters are passionate and his protestors equally so.
With some maneuvering, Ford swept in to lead the Progressive Conservatives, winning the PC leadership at a convention held earlier this year.
But when Ford gets on his campaign rally bus, there’s a real sense that this is a man that is going places.
The support for Ford is apparent and indeed seems real. His campaign rallies held across the province often have line-ups out the door.
It’s all about Ford Nation.
Yet Ford’s ultimate goal is being challenged by Kathleen Wynne and Andrea Horwath who are experienced political professionals and see Ford as somewhat of a rookie at Queen’s Park.
What they don’t recognize in Ford is what voters see, a man to lead the need for change.
Humber River-Black Creek has traditionally gone Liberal even when Conservatives Ernie Eves and Mike Harris held strongholds in the province.
For this reason it seems likely that our representative at Queen’s Park will remain Liberal, with Deanna Sgro winning the seat.
Andrea Horwath has been coming on strong provincially but she too seems somewhat unlikely to actually draw support from the Liberal stronghold in Humber River-Black Creek that has been held for decades.
But it’s not impossible. Her candidate for Humber-River Black Creek is experienced political vet, Tom Rakocevic. He has shown his own noticeable surge in popularity, and it may actually springboard him over the top. Ford’s candidate in our area is Cyma Musarat, who has been following all the right steps to achieve her own success and would be a credible representative at Queen’s Park.
There is no doubt that the results of this election will provide many surprises. Please exercise your own right to vote on June 7th.
