Dear Resident,
Thank you to everyone who attended the recent community meeting hosted by City Planning last month regarding the development application at 3100 Weston Road. This site includes several important community landmarks, including the Carmine Stefano Community Centre, the Marian Shrine of Gratitude, the Rivermede House, and the former St. Basil-the-Great College School. It was encouraging to see such a strong turnout and to hear from residents who care deeply about the future of this site. I appreciate everyone who took the time to participate and share their perspectives.
At the meeting, I committed to continuing this conversation and am hosting a follow-up meeting so we can ensure your concerns and ideas continue to be heard. I have reviewed the plans and believe that this is a bad development for this site. As such, I will be opposing this development.
As many of you heard during the meeting, the developer has chosen to take their proposal directly to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT). By doing so, they have effectively bypassed the normal City planning process. Instead, the development proposal will now be negotiated at the OLT by lawyers, planners, and consultants.
This situation has become increasingly common due to changes in Provincial planning legislation, which now allow landowners to sidestep City Planning and take their applications directly to the Provincially appointed OLT for approval.
I invite you to attend the follow-up meeting I am hosting so that you can continue to provide feedback directly to City Planning staff. Your input will help inform the City’s position as they prepare for the OLT process, and your participation will remain an important part of ensuring the community’s voice is heard.
Meeting Details:
Date: Thursday, April 9th
Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Carmine Stefano Community Centre
3100 Weston Rd
I encourage everyone who cares about the future of this site to attend, stay informed, and continue to make their voices heard. Together, we can ensure that our community’s priorities remain part of the conversation as this process moves forward.
