Councillor’s Corner-March 2016

.

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to provide you with information and updates on important local and city wide issues regarding what is happening in our community and in our city.

Some residents have told me they are unhappy with the way things are done at City Hall, when decisions are taken behind closed doors, with little community input. I can tell you that I will continue to demand transparency, accountability, financial sustainability and fairness from city representatives and staff on behalf of all hardworking taxpayers; after all, we work for you the residents of Toronto, not the other way around

Over the years, we in York West- Ward 7 have been successful in accomplishing many of our goals by working in a partnership that includes community organizations and residents at large. Together, we have created a network that makes our community a strong and vibrant place.

I believe my most important duty as a city councillor is to be inclusive and always listen to the wishes of the local community. To make it easier for residents to see me personally or to talk to my staff. My community office located at 2930 Islington Avenue, is now open Thursday’s until 7p.m.

My most valued source of information has always been derived directly from residents, and I am always reaching out to get their input on issues in many different ways. I do this through email, the phone, my website, public consultation meetings, and with residents on a one-to-one basis. It has always been my belief that any decision must be made only after consultation with the public and I have adhered to this guiding principal, without fail, throughout my political career.

Successful communities are made up of neighbours that care and look out for one another. York West has been shaped by its residents and their willingness to put forth their hard work, dedication, and goodwill toward the betterment of others.

These remarkable traits are without a doubt, the catalyst to building the social infrastructure of our neighbourhood. Ultimately, I am proud to represent a neighbourhood which is filled with community spirit.

Most residents I have spoken to share my optimistic outlook and are excited about the city’s prospects for 2016 and beyond. I encourage everybody to stay involved and make sure their opinions are heard and acted upon. By working together, we will ensure Toronto remains the best city in the world to live, work and play.

I hope you will continue to write, email or call my office to share your good ideas and let me know what you think and how I can be of assistance. Working together, we got it done.

Ward 7 Councillor,.
