Councillor’s Corner-June 2016

Dear Friends,

June is upon us and summer is officially in full swing. I hope you have had an opportunity to take advantage of the fantastic summer weather we have had so far this year by visiting one of the many beautiful parks in Ward 7.

If you haven’t had the opportunity, I strongly encourage you and your families to spend some time and enjoy the many wonderful parks and amenities Ward 7 has to offer.

Whether your interests include playing sports such as baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer or even just playing some bocce, you’ll have a great time enjoying the many amenities our parks offer.

Engage in a game of baseball in either St. Lucie or Lanyard park. If tennis is your sport, tennis courts can be found at both Lanyard and Gracedale Parks. If you’re looking to spend some time playing bocce, be sure to visit one of the many bocce courts located at Habitant, Plunkett, and Gracedale Parks.

Playgrounds are available as well and can be found at Lanyard and Bluehaven parks.

In addition to these parks, through the community’s input, the re-development of Fennimore Park will be completed mid-July. The new playground will include a spider net, junior/senior play structure, playpanel and a sand-play area.

Finally, last but not least, I would like to share the good news of the re-opening of the Chalkfarm Pedestrian Bridges.

There are two pedestrian bridges that provide access into the Chalkfarm community and mall plaza that had to be temporarily closed for urgent repairs.

One of the bridges, located near Jane Street, is now re-opened to the public and the construction of the second pedestrian bridge, leading into the plaza, has been finalized and expected to commence in July 2016.

The second pedestrian bridge should be completed and re-opened to the public by the end of 2016.

Wishing you all a safe and happy summer!

Ward 7 Councillor
