Councillor’s Corner - Aug 2015

Dear Friends,

I hope you have been enjoying this beautiful summer and everything Ward 7 has to offer. Last month I spoke about the amazing parks and recreation facilities that are part of what makes our community one of the best places to live in the City of Toronto.

As your representative it is important to me that those spaces are family-friendly, inviting places where our community can gather and our children can play and grow. Going forward you will notice some changes coming to our parks in order to make them even more enjoyable for residents of all ages.

You spoke and I took action - on the slate for major improvements are Apted and Bluehaven Parks, which will see some redesign to the amenities in order to best serve their respective communities. Smaller but still valuable and much needed improvements will be seen to the play structures at Louise Russo Park, Fennimore Park, and Gord and Irene Risk Community Centre and Chalkfarm Park. You may have already noticed the new mini soccer fields at Rowntree Mills Park, installed earlier this year. I believe that having a variety of amenities that allow our children to try different sports is vital to their learning and growth and therefore these improvements and changes to our parks will help continue the tradition of sports leadership in Ward 7 as well as bring more families together in our parks and help strengthen our community.
