On June 28th, Joseph Bannon Park in Emery was buzzing with laughter, joy, and community spirit as families and friends gathered for a special Movie in the Park event. The main attraction was Disney Pixar’s charming film, Elemental, which delighted audiences of all ages under the night sky.
Local businesses, including Noodlebox, Meltwitch Food Co., and Pet Valu, came together to support this event, showcasing Emery’s vibrant community spirit. Their generous contributions made sure the evening was packed with activities and treats, keeping everyone entertained even before the movie started.
Kids had a blast exploring the jungle gym, bar slide, and splash pad. The air was filled with giggles as they enjoyed the playground and cool water, much to the amusement (and occasional dismay) of their parents. Face painting turned little faces into colourful canvases, while a bouncy castle and walk-through castle added extra excitement.
Food lovers were in for a treat with a variety of delicious options. The ice cream truck was a hit, offering sweet relief from the warm summer evening. Food trucks, including favourites like Meltwitch Food Co. and Noodlebox, served up tasty meals for all. Pet Valu also added to the festive atmosphere with their treats.
As the sun set, families and friends set up their chairs and blankets, eagerly awaiting the night’s main event. The park was a sea of happy faces, with everyone ready for a cinematic experience under the stars. The sense of community was strong, with neighbours chatting and kids playing together, creating a warm and welcoming vibe. Movie Night happened to be the last day of school for the year, so you can imagine the excitement.
Councillor Anthony Perruzza, chair of the Emery Village BIA, personally welcomed the more than 300 residents who attended the event. In an energetic address, he wished everyone a safe and enjoyable summer. MPP Tom Rakocevic also participated and shared similar well-wishes.
Friends from Emery Eye Q, a new vision correction retailer in Emery, were on hand to say hello and offer information and a special treat. Melody Frazer and the team from Mosaic and Metrolinx shared updates on the Finch West LRT and hand out promotional items. MPP Tom Rakocevic and his staff, along with MP Sgro’s team, were also manning booths. Thank you to Pet Valu, who always has the best pet treats in Emery.
Sandra Farina, the Executive Director of the Emery Village BIA, extended a heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers who kept things organized and running smoothly. Hats off to Emery BIA Board Member Jessica Gaglia, from the Seaboard Transport group, who worked tirelessly serving tasty burgers to hungry Emery moviegoers.
When Elemental began to play, the audience was transported into Disney Pixar’s whimsical world. Laughter and cheers filled the air.
The Movie in the Park event at Joseph Bannon Park was a big hit thanks to the support of local businesses and the enthusiasm of the Emery community. It was an evening of fun, food, and fantastic entertainment, reminding everyone of the joy of coming together and celebrating community spirit.
