Mosaic Transit Group was proud to see Varni Tayalan, community relations specialist, receive the Community Leader Award at the Toronto Construction Association’s (TCA) 2023 Best of the Best awards gala at the Richmond Hill Country Club on February 21.
The Community Leader Award is presented to a person(s)/organizations who seek to make a genuine difference in their community by contributing their time and/or resources selflessly for the betterment of local neighbourhoods.
Tayalan emerged victorious due to her unrelenting drive and commitment to bettering the finch west community through a wide-variety of exciting initiatives, including the co-creation and implementation of a 12-week internship program created in partnership with Toronto Community Benefits Network (TCBN). The program aims to provide valuable on the job experience, deepen skills, and offer mentorship for job seekers who are entering or transitioning their acquired skills to the construction field. Five of the six interns found full-time positions by the end of the program, making it a huge success.
“I am honoured and grateful for this award,” said Tayalan. “This is not just my win, but a win for my team, as their support is instrumental in my work. The award also distinguishes our company as one with profound interest in the finch west community and its economic growth. I am humbled for this recognition and thank you for motivating me to continue my professional journey.”
Also on Taylan’s repertoire is consistent attendance at events throughout the finch west community, including the DUKE Heights BIA Canada Day event, as well as its Tour de DUKE bike initiative, which donates bicycles and equipment to children in the finch west area.
